All residents are eligible to participate in the Big Rapids Housing Commission’s Family Self Sufficiency Program (FSS). The FSS program provides for coordination of local, community-based resources in order to promote economic independence for families living in assisted housing. Each family signs a Contract of Participation outlining the participant’s goals to become self-sufficient. Goals include: Obtaining suitable full-time employment, remaining off welfare, repairing credit, etc. The primary incentive for a family is economic independence. The Big Rapids Housing Commission will establish an interest bearing escrow account for each family.
